David Cross on 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' Role: The 'Most Unpleasant Experience I've Ever Had'

Does comedian David Cross regret his decision to take a role in those 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' movies? Oh yes. Now that he's done with the trilogy and able to speak freely, he's calling it "without question, the most unpleasant experience I've ever had in my professional life." He took a lot of heat when he first signed up for the series, including some potshots from Patton Oswalt (guess bedding Charlize Theron in 'Young Adult' gets you more indie cred than acting opposite animated rodents). At the time, Cross memorably answered, in essence, that you can't buy a house with indie hipster cred. While promoting his new TV show, 'The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret,' Cross discussed the horror that was the 'Chipmunk' franchise, in which he played a record executive: "It's safe to say I won't be working with some of those people ever again. Not the actors. And the director [Mike Mitchell] was great. We got along. There were a couple of people, though ... it was just a really awful, unpleasant experience." But there was one upside for Cross, besides getting paid: "I got recognized in China. I got recognized in a teeny tiny town in Mozambique. In Zimbabwe. Botswana. It's crazy."
